Christmas Necklace

Should Christmas necklace design always be red, green and white? What if you just stick to one color? In my case, I saw green color complementing red sweaters some people like to wear on Christmas.

Beads

I have to admit; it has been months since I acquired these handmade glass beads from Alex Krupkin of Moonfire Glass. It looked like a summer project to me at first, but time was passing by and I could not settle with any idea how am I going to dress these beads and what design are they asking for.

Christmas Necklace Idea

Someone who looked for an organic design with a specific colors and lines in mind will understand how seems to be an easy project can turn into an agony. I have tried several patterns, all of them were green.  But none of them reflected the transparency of the beads or the fluidity of colors in them.

One day I was looking into the pond in front of a large building and suddenly thought of this set of beads. It turned out; I just had to be patient because the idea came as easy as I could switch the lights on.

Christmas Necklace Design

My favorite spiral stitch found its way into another necklace design again. The Fancy Spiral design is also based on the same stitch and technique.

I called it the Christmas Necklace not only because of the colors that I chose for it. Finding a solution for this piece happened during preparations for this holiday.

I weaved all elements of the design separately. Each element was a little spiral with a metal ring. Later I connected them with open rings into one chain with hanging beaded elements. Two separate pieces of chain served as extentions and completed the design.

I still see shades of ocean water color tones in it.  Do you?

P.S. By the way, some of the Moonfire Glass handmade glass beads are available at Svetlana Gallery Beads.
