3 Bead Embroidered Pendants

These three bead embroidered pendants are my recent works I completed for a friend and jewelry maker to complement her viking knit necklaces.

Usually my friend and jewelry artist who specializes in viking knit necklaces trusts me with my design choices and I am free to create anything I like. With absolutely no limitations I still like to set my own borders to keep pieces classy and wearable.

First cabochon in a rich blue color did not pose any threats and was easy to bezel. I am not sure if I can call it lapis lazuli, it also may be a dyed houlite. Since I was not the one to purchase the stone, I wouldn’t make any conclusions. I chose the shape of the pendant and created a pattern to fill it. Sort of Vincent van Gogh Starry Night in a  rather decorative Mediterranean style.

Second focal point was a faceted stone both sides of which were puffed. Elongated trapezium  also had rounded corners. I had to create support for this stone with a row of #11 seed beads underneath it.  This row of beads it is not visible.

This pendant is heavier than usual ones that feature calibrated cabochones and appears as a sophisticated piece of art jewelry.

Another focal point of unfamiliar material was a puffed rectangular bead with rounded corners. It reminded me of another focal stone I chose for my bead embroidered pendant which was some kind of composite material made out of stones and possibly colored epoxy. Unlike my previous choice of the large green focal point, this pendant’s details was not seen as harmonious to me. To balance rather awkward pattern of the bead, I created simple geometrical pattern outside of it, using strong contrast between black and turquoise blue colors.
