Bead Embroidered Heart Brooch

The dates for this bead embroidered heart brooch master class were perfect for me (for once)! So I happily signed up for it!

Why not add another heart to the collection?

There are many Instagram classes run this way: the artist selects people through the open profile and then teaches the course in the privet profile. I find it very efficient because we don’t have to be destructed by posts or comments and focus only on the project.

Finding the materials was a little tricky. Even though I have lots of suitable beads in my stash, I never have the right kind. Isn’t it the usual story with all of us?

The right kind of materials was not available in the same bead shop, so I had to order from different places.

The most problematic was the bright check wire. I don’t know a lot of suppliers here for the goldwork embroidery. Moreover, I had a tiny idea of how to distinguish wire by listed parameters.

Here I have to say that the master class was in the Russian language. Therefore I had to find translations for each of the wires in English. Also, the sizes for these wires seemed to be listed differently in every language.

Nevertheless, our teacher Dasha took the time to explain everything thoroughly. So I had no problem to adjust my materials to the design and techniques she used in her design and tutorial.

Of course, many of the techniques are very much familiar to me. Only working with the goldwork materials was new.

The wire I picked was soft, so I had some trouble keeping it intact. It is a very delicate material. When I got the hang of it, I felt like I love working with it. It is not for impatient people, yet, the accuracy and focus it demands is very similar to meditation.

Since I have some wire left, I will be looking for more tutorials to practice those embroidery skills.

Overall, it was so much fun to use different techniques in one embroidery project! And I am delighted with the result. What do you think?

Do you recognize familiar bead embroidery techniques here? What is your favorite? And have you tried goldwork embroidery techniques?
