Fancy Spiral Bead Pattern Variation and Modification

Are you adventurous when it comes to beading?

I am sure, you are!

Many of my creative friends adjust and modify bead designs for different reasons. Sometimes just because we don’t have all the required beads in our stash we substitute or even change the design slightly to accommodate our bead preferences better.

I make these kinds of changes often. Do you?

I even change my own patterns. Just for fun!

Fancy Spiral Bead Pattern Variation and Modification

I think, my Fancy Spiral pattern is a good example of a quick makeover.

I wanted to make this beaded spiral with natural stone beads I have recently purchased at a bargain price. The disk beads had slightly different dimensions compared to the original beads my pattern calls for. I made a quick sample and saw that they wouldn’t fit perfectly in the design. Therefore I had to modify the pattern and switch some seed beads around them to make the structure of the spiral as fluid as it was originally designed.

The result looked more interesting than I intended it to. Instead of a glamorous piece of evening jewelry, I now had a down-to-earth spiral with a more detailed design.

Do you modify spirals often? What is your favorite modification?
