12 mm Round Rivoli Bezel Tutorial

How to use peyote stitch to wrap a 12 mm round Rivoli? How to cover the Rivoli’s back with beadwork to protect the crystal’s surface?

I created this video tutorial for beginners and everyone who likes using bezeled crystals in different beading projects. The quickest way to apply this element to a beadwork design is to make a pendant or beaded earrings.

12 mm Round Rivoli Bezel Tutorial

To complete this tutorial you will need:

Beads

  • Cylinder seed beads size 11 (I used Delica)
  • Round seed beads size 15 Color A
  • Round seed beads size 15 Color B

Tools and Supplies

  • Beading needle size 12
  • Beading thread (I used Fireline 6 lb)

Foundation Row

String 30 Cylinder seed beads and make a knot.

I suggest making the square knot.

Square knot

Cross one side of the thread over the other side. Tighten the first half of the square knot by pulling on the thread on each side. Make sure that none of the cylinder beads got into the middle of it. Do not pull all the way through.

If you started your square knot by crossing the left thread on top of the right thread, you will do the second half of the knot by crossing the thread on the right side on top of the thread end on the left side.

To tie the second half of the square knot, take the thread end you crossed over on top with your left hand and pull it down under the other thread end, and through the middle.

Back of the Crystal

First Row

Using Peyote Stitch, add one row of cylinder seed beads size 11.

Before you start adding beads to the second row, make sure your thread is exiting one of the cylinder beads added to the first row. (In the video, the first row is one that added after the Foundation Row)

Second Row

Using Peyote stitch, add one row of seed beads size 15 color A. This row should be on the inside of the circle.

The Center of the Back

We are going to cover the back of the crystal completely using netting stitch.

String 5 seed beads size 15 color A.

Skip the next bead in the previous peyote stitch row. Stitch through the second bead.

Stitch through the next bead in the peyote row.

Repeat 4 times.

Then stitch through the beads towards the center. Make sure your thread exits the middle bead in the group of five you’ve added in the previous row.

Pick up one seed bead size 15 and stitch through the next middle bead in the next group of five beads.

Repeat 4 times.

Pull the thread and reinforce it.

Stitch through the beads towards the foundation row.

Front of the Crystal

Add one Peyote stitch row of cylinder beads size 11.

Place the 12 mm Rivoli into the beaded “cup” with the back of the crystal against the covered part of the bezel structure.

Add another Peyote stitch row with round seed beads size 15 color A.

Add the last Peyote stitch row using seed beads size 15 color B.
