Fluorite

It is easy to identify fluorite by its color characteristic of purple, green, and yellow. The translucent-to-transparent appearance of this mineral sets this stone apart from others with similar colors that lack transparency.

In 1852, George Gabriel Stokes discovered the ability of fluorite specimens to produce a blue glow when illuminated with light, which he described as “beyond the violet end of the spectrum.” He called this phenomenon “fluorescence” after the mineral fluorite.

What is Fluorite?

A member of the Halide family, this gem is composed of calcium fluorite. It was found in the tropics of Mexico and balmy Brazil and originally went by Fluorspar.

Fluorite is used in various chemical, metallurgical, and ceramic processes. Minerals with exceptional transparency and color are cut into gems or used to make ornamental objects.

I’ve seen stone at most mineral and gem fairs I attended. It is relatively inexpensive to craft with or purchase for decorative purposes. I like its translucent colors, which often resemble watercolor compositions made with the wet-on-wet technique.

Spiritual Meaning

Fluorite stems from the Latin word ‘fluere’, which means “to flow”. So, the meaning refers to the gem’s ability to flow in harmony. If you think of that word in a spiritual sense, it summarizes the mood of this stone as one that is about balance, joy, and harmony.

Besides clarity for the mind, it brings purity and clean health to the body. It’s an excellent stone for those who want to detox, as its energy is about flushing out toxic thoughts, patterns, and behaviors, including addictive issues.

Fluorite for Zodiac Signs

Fluorite and Capricorn are a match made in heaven. Bringing a sense of order to the world’s chaos is one of the best stones for finetuning mental focus and sharpening those organizational skills.

It is also good for Pisces. They love to go with the flow and seem to be smitten by the healing delights of this gem. I am one of them. This stone looked very attractive to me way before I started beading.

Colors

There are several commonly known colors of fluorite crystals:

  • Clear
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Purple
  • and Rainbow

Why Wearing It?

Wearing fluorite assures its bearer that its splendid powers remove any unwanted negativity. I am yet to test these metaphysical properties on myself. I’ve created the Spring Necklace using this stone in the design. Also, I am working on beaded pendants with this gemstone, and I will share my experiments with you soon.

Do you have this mineral in your collection of stones or jewelry? Can you feel the difference when wearing this gemstone?
