I discovered something interesting after following the Hood River waterfront trail this past October. The beautiful spot one can walk to and stand almost in the middle of the river. Because of the very dry summer, the Columbia river revealed much more bare land between the bridges and the town. It was a pleasure to walk around and explore the park, where dogs seemed to have more fun than people.
